On Dec. 20, 2012, the final episode of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” aired worldwide, marking an end to the show’s sixth season. Now, merely five and a half years after the show’s supposed conclusion, a reunion season entitled “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” has been announced for release on Apr. 5, 2018. Since the production was confirmed by MTV back in November of 2017, many months of anticipation and speculation have gone by, all leading up to a few exciting reveals that occurred over the past couple of weeks.
When a reunion season was first publicized on sites like Facebook and Twitter, fans of the show seemed to have three initial questions. Who was going, when were they going, and where were they going? In fact, the last question became so popular that the phrase “Where the f*** they going?” was eventually coined in MTV advertisements, with the answer being revealed as Miami, Florida in mid-January. As for when the drama-inducing show will present itself, the answer was actually given in two parts, which also connected to the reunion’s fascinating cast of characters.
The parts mentioned previously took the form of two short videos posted on Feb. 7 through the show’s many social media accounts. The first video was a 20 second teaser trailer that showcased most of the returning cast including Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Vinny Guadagnino, Paul “Pauly D” Delvecchio, Deena Nicole Cortese, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley. Additionally, the end of the teaser made sure to quickly flash the season premiere date as a way of notifying everybody when their shenanigans would be kicking back up.
The second video, however, presented a piece of information that almost any long-time “Jersey Shore” fan would find interesting. This brief video, released a couple hours after the series’ first teaser trailer was posted, consists only of Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino being unexpectedly greeted by a person whose first words to him are, “You think I’m a dirty little hamster?” According to Bustle, the person greeting Sorrentino in such an unusual way is none other than the infamous Angelina Pivarnick, an individual who left the original “Jersey Shore” show during its second season due to complications with her place of business and almost every member of the Jersey Shore house.
With Angelina’s supposed return to the group of semi-Italian-Americans, as well as the numerous changes each cast member has gone through over the past five years including TV show spin-offs, tax evasions and even having kids, this return to one of MTV’s most successful productions should prove to have both the expected dramatics and some unexpected twists.
